By December 18, 2020December 30th, 2020No Comments

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is holding a Public Information Meeting for the proposed Butler Road Improvements project in Mauldin, SC. Due to health and safety concerns, the meeting will be online with an opportunity to meet in person. The meeting will be available on the project website from Tuesday, January 5, 2021 through Friday, February 5, 2021.

In-person meetings with the project team will be offered on Thursday, January 14, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mauldin Cultural Center at 101 E. Butler Road, Mauldin, SC 29662. Appointments are strongly encouraged due to health protocols. Walk-ins will be accommodated based on availability. To schedule an in-person meeting, please contact SCDOT project manager Casey Lucas at 803-737-1807 or at butlerroad@scdot.org, or sign up for an appointment time at buildingabetterbutler.com.

The Public Information Meeting will have displays and handouts for viewing, and citizens will have the opportunity to provide written comments. Project information, including meeting displays and handouts, will be available on the project website beginning January 5, 2021.

Purpose:

To provide an opportunity to review, comment on, and discuss the proposed Butler Road improvements with project representatives. Another purpose of this meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.

In addition, the project is anticipated to take right-of-way from a public park owned by the City of Mauldin (Mauldin Park) for the road improvements. Based on the project’s proposed use of the park, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) intends to make a de minimis (minimal impact) finding for the project. SCDOT is coordinating with the City of Mauldin and would improve access to the park with the proposed improvements. This meeting will also be held to provide information and receive comments on the proposed de minimis finding.
