Update on Jenkins Street project and railroad crossing relocation

By June 26, 2025June 27th, 2025No Comments

The Jenkins Street project and railroad crossing relocation is currently delayed and awaiting the relocation of the Piedmont Natural Gas line on 276.

Here is the current status and timeline of the project:

  • Once the PNG gas line is moved, the 276 stormwater pipe can be upsized at the intersection, and the Jenkins Street project will resume
  • Once construction on Jenkins is complete, the new railroad crossing will open (this will ensure worker safety and minimize lane closures)
  • PNG has said they hope to have their relocation work completed by mid-July

We know this closure can be a source of frustration for folks traveling around the city, and we do apologize for the inconvenience. The City will provide another update once PNG relocates their gas line and we have a more concrete timeline. Thank you for your patience!

Background

This railroad crossing closure and realignment is part of the Jenkins Street streetscaping project and City Center Village development, which includes Maverick Yards, a mixed-use project that will feature a dining and entertainment complex and more than 40 townhouses for rent.

Located on 6.5 acres of land at the corner of Jenkins Street and Jenkins Court, Maverick Yards is currently in progress, with the townhomes completed and available for rent, and work on the entertainment complex under way.
