Mark Steenback grew up in the Golden Strip area and is a graduate of Southside Christian. After going to college and playing baseball on the West Coast, he was happy to move back home with his wife, Shawna, in 2004. Mark, Shawna, and their four boys moved into Planter’s Row in 2018 and immediately began integrating into the community. After being introduced to advocacy and local government while working on behalf of his and surrounding neighborhoods to keep the ability for their kids to attend Mauldin High School, he found a passion for local politics.

“As a political agnostic, I was the most shocked by my interest and desire to remain involved in local government,” Steenback said. “My hope and goal is to be a voice for the citizens of our city. I believe it’s my job to carry out the will of the individuals that live in our City.”

Mark spends most of his free time as a volunteer coach in various recreation programs throughout the Upstate, including Mauldin City baseball and flag football leagues.

“Service has always been an important part of my life,” he said. “I know that I was created to work so that others can benefit.”

His other interests include fishing, gaming, making and enjoying BBQ with friends, watching sports — especially his favorite teams, Clemson and the Seattle Seahawks — and spending time with his family.
