SCDOT has delayed the Building a Better Butler project after initial bids came in over budget. The agency plans to issue a new Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2027.
SCDOT shared that they only received 2 bids on the project, with the lowest bid being $50.8 million. The project budget is $34 million.
SCDOT expects to receive bids again in February after further review and analysis of contractor questions to prepare a more thorough bid package.
Though the project has not been released for construction, Duke Energy is wrapping up their utility relocations and Charter and AT&T will begin their work soon.
We understand how frustrating this news is for community members, especially because this project has already been delayed several times. While this delay is outside of our control, we will keep residents informed as we receive additional updates from SCDOT.
