The City of Mauldin is seeking Mauldin Residents to fill one vacancy on its Planning Commission and two vacancies on its Board of Building and Zoning Appeals.

The seven-member Planning Commission is an appointed body by City Council that serves as the authority on subdivision matters, and as a citizen advisory body, which makes recommendations to the City Council on changes to the long-range comprehensive land use plan, land development regulations, zoning ordinance, and rezoning requests. The Planning Commission consists of Mauldin residents who have professional and/or community experience; and/or simply have a desire to be part of shaping Mauldin’s future. The Planning Commission regularly meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, at Mauldin City Hall , beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The seven-member Building and Zoning Board of Appeals is an Council appointed, quasi-judicial board that conducts public hearings and has the authority to decide and on act on appeals to staff decisions made by the Building Official and/or Zoning Administrator. The Board also hears requests for zoning variances and special exceptions to traditional zoning regulations such as use, building setbacks, height restrictions, and parking requirements. The Building and Zoning Board of Appeals regularly meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at Mauldin City Hall, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Participation on the Planning Commission or Board of Appeals requires a time commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month. Members of each prepare for meetings by reviewing a variety of maps and technical information, and making site visits. This includes regular attendance at meetings, time spent reviewing materials for each meeting, and attendance at City Council meetings and other pertinent meetings as required.

Applications from Mauldin residents will be accepted until Friday, July 13th, 2018.  City Council will make appointments to these vacant seats during the July 16, 2018 meeting, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
