Mauldin Police Department to Host Polar Plunge and Car Show to benefit Special Olympics South Carolina

The Mauldin Police Department will host a Polar Plunge on Feb. 15 and an Ultimate Car Show on March 8 to benefit Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics South Carolina.

The Polar Plunge “Freezin’ for a Reason” event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Discovery Island Waterpark at 417 Baldwin Road in Simpsonville, where participants will brave the cold weather and jump into icy waters to raise money for Special Olympics South Carolina. There will also be a DJ, costume contest and awards given to the highest fundraisers, and water slides will be open. All proceeds raised will benefit Special Olympics South Carolina to help provide year-round sports training and competition for athletes.

Polar Plunge “Freezin’ for a Reason” was started by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), a grassroots fundraising organization whose mission is to raise funds and raise awareness for Special Olympics. All proceeds raised by LETR go directly to support the 30,707 athletes of Special Olympics South Carolina.

Ultimate Car Show

The Ultimate Car Show hosted by the Mauldin Police Department will be held on Saturday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 701 Brookfield Parkway in Greenville. The registration fee to participate in the car show competition is $25, and entry for all other vehicles is $10. There will be live music, free car seat checks and vendors on site. All proceeds will benefit Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics South Carolina.

Awards will be given in the following categories by Special Olympics athletes located in the Upstate:

  • Best in Show
  • Best Classic Car
  • Best Muscle Car
  • Best Custom Car
  • People’s Choice
  • Best Patrol Car

“The Mauldin Police Department is proud to host these fundraisers, and we hope community members will join us and help support a great cause,” said Corporal Harley Sefcik, a member of MPD’s Community Outreach Team, who is organizing both events. “Special Olympics is a cause that is near and dear to my heart, because I believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to live a fulfilling life and reach their highest potential, and this organization gives people with disabilities a chance to do that.”

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics South Carolina.
