The Mauldin Police Department has charged two people in connection with a road rage shooting that happened Wednesday morning on West Butler Road near Whatley Circle.

John Robison, 54, of Piedmont, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Csaba Szabo, 53, of Greenville, has been charged with reckless driving.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:20 a.m. Wednesday on West Butler Road. When officers arrived on scene, they found Robison holding a gun and Szabo with a single gunshot wound to the right shoulder area. Robison was taken into custody, and Szabo was transported to the hospital after being assessed and treated at the scene.

The altercation began in the Piedmont area, where Szabo — driving a white Dodge pickup truck — was allegedly driving erratically and tailgating Robison, who was driving a blue Tesla sedan. The altercation continued into Mauldin on West Butler Road, where Szabo allegedly got in front of Robison and slammed on his brakes, at which point Robison rear-ended him.

After the collision, Szabo allegedly got out of his pickup truck and walked toward the driver’s side of Robison’s vehicle; Robison then fired a gunshot at Szabo from inside his Tesla, hitting Szabo in the right shoulder area.

Robison is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center. Szabo’s condition is unknown at this time, but his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
