MAULDIN, SC – In a recent list by HomeSnacks, Mauldin was ranked as one of the top ten places to live in South Carolina. Citing national census data and FBI crime data, the list uses a number of criteria including median home values, median income, unemployment rate, crime, education levels, poverty rates, and more. Between 61 cities in the Palmetto State, HomeSnacks ranked Mauldin third in the state, following Tega Cay at second and Mount Pleasant at first.
HomeSnacks split the candidates into three tiers based on population: small towns under 1,000; towns between 1,000 and 5,000; and cities over 5,000. The 61 cities were then ranked in a class of their own so as to make the judging more fair.
With a population around 25,000, Mauldin defended its place from last year at third on the list. HomeSnacks attributed Mauldin’s success to the city’s median home value of $154,800 (24th best in the state), an unemployment rate of 6.1% (15th best), and the 6th lowest crime rate in South Carolina. The list also named quality education and high-earning residents as another reason the city earned its place in the top ten.
