Improvements to the Rothwell Drive and East Butler Road Intersection are Underway

Improvements to the Rothwell Drive and East Butler Road Intersection are underway and are expected to go through November 2020. The improvements to the intersection represent an effort to address the safety issues (e.g., traffic congestion, traffic hazards) at the current Rothwell Drive and E. Butler Road intersection.

The project is a collaborative effort between the City of Mauldin, Shaw Resources, Laurens Electric and the Greenville Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee (GLDTC), also known as the C-Fund Committee. The new interchange will also include a traffic signal making accessibility to the Millport Business Park and onto East Butler Road safer.

“This type of public-private partnership is a great way and example of the City working with community stakeholders to facilitate infrastructure improvement projects,” said Mauldin Mayor Terry Merritt. “City Council is working hard to duplicate this approach to address these types of infrastructure needs throughout the City.”

The project, which will cost approximately $1.1M, involves the closure and relocation of Rothwell Drive to a signalized intersection at East Butler Road.

Economic Development Committee Chairperson Taft Matney stated that this project will complement the larger E. Butler Road corridor project that currently is in its design phase. “The E. Butler Road corridor is one of the most heavily trafficked areas during the morning and afternoon commutes,” said Matney. “This project, along with the planned improvements for East Butler Road from Corn Road to N. Main Street, will reduce vehicle delays, improve traffic flow, and provide a more traffic-friendly atmosphere for pedestrians.”

Traffic closures and daily lane closures can be expected through the project’s completion. For more information about this project, visit the City’s website at cityofmauldin.org.
