SALARY & BENEFITS
The Mauldin Police Department is committed to offering a competitive salary and benefits package that supports the personnel who protect and serve our City. Salary for dispatchers ranges from a starting salary of $37,440 to a maximum salary of $58,139. Salary for police officers is based on rank:

Incentive Pay
For certified patrol officers and corporals, incentives are added as supplementary pay on top of the base rate. Incentives are capped at $2/hour:
- Associate degree: $.50/hour
- Bachelor’s degree: $1/hour
- Foreign language: $1/hour
- Prior military experience: $.50/hour
- FTO: $1/hour

HIRING PROCESS

For those seeking employment as a sworn officer, the requirements are as follows:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to complete required training
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
The hiring process for police officers typically takes 2 to 4 months and consists of the following steps:
PHASE I
1. Preliminary Background Review
- Administration reviews application to ensure all documents have been submitted
- The following checks will be completed:
- Criminal History
- Driver’s License History
2. Testing Process
- Written exam
- Panel interview
PHASE II
Pre-Employment Process
- Background investigation (to include credit check)
- Polygraph
- Conditional offer – contingent upon exams and drug screen
- Psychological examination
- Salary agreement and hire date
For those seeking employment as a dispatcher, the requirements are as follows:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to complete required training
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license

Available Positions
Patrol Officer – Certified
This position provides highly responsible law enforcement and crime prevention functions for the Police Department. Responsibilities include enforcing laws and ordinances, investigating misdemeanor and felony crimes, arresting offenders of the law, responding to dispatch calls involving traffic accidents, medical and other emergencies, civil disputes, family disturbances and other calls requiring police assistance.

Dispatcher/Telecommunications Operator
This position performs a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information for police, fire, and other public emergency response agencies.
