Monday night, City Council gave initial approval to an ordinance that would add a referendum to the November ballot for a penny sales tax within Mauldin city limits.
The tax would be in effect for up to 8 years, and the revenue generated would fund specific street projects and related infrastructure. A share of the tax would be returned to homeowners as a property tax credit.
Council voted 4-1 to pass the ordinance on first reading. Second reading is scheduled for August 3, and if approved, the referendum would be placed on the Nov. 3 ballot. For more information about the penny sales tax, click here.
