Mauldin Gateway Bridge
The Mauldin Gateway Bridge is an iconic landmark that extends over the six lanes of Interstate 385 near the Bridges Road exit. Completed in 2023, the pedestrian bridge serves as a major connection point in the City, linking the BridgeWay Station development with the greater Mauldin community and eventually connecting to the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

Vision + Partnership
The City of Mauldin partnered with Hughes Investments, Inc., developer of BridgeWay Station, to construct a pedestrian bridge that extends over I-385. Construction began in June of 2022 and was completed in 2023.
“The bridge is a unity point that will enhance the walkability to the new amenities at BridgeWay Station, and we’re excited to see it come to fruition,” said Mayor Terry Merritt.
The first phase of BridgeWay Station opened in 2023 and includes a variety of dining, entertainment and recreation opportunities, as well as new apartments and work spaces.
“We are grateful to the City of Mauldin and South Carolina Department of Transportation for their partnership in bringing this vision of a pedestrian bridge for the Swamp Rabbit Trail to reality,” said Phil Hughes, President of Hughes Investments. “We hope to see Mauldin residents enjoy this path for years to come.”
Location & Details
Pedestrians can access the bridge through the Mauldin City Trail, a 0.25-mile paved trail located on East Butler Road across from Mauldin High School.
On a donated easement from Laurens Electric Cooperative, the Mauldin City Trail is great for walking, biking and strollers, with features including dog waste stations and an emergency phone system. It will eventually connect to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 28-mile multi-use trail along a former railroad corridor.
