Mauldin Set for Population Spike with New Housing Development, Annexation

Mauldin is poised for another jump in population with a new housing development planned off West Butler Road.

The City Council on Monday unanimously gave initial approval to the annexation of the approximately 145-acre property on which the development is planned. The annexation will need a second vote to pass.

“I am so happy to be moving to West Butler,” Councilman Terry Merritt said. “It’s exciting to see that we’re growing in more than just an eastern direction.”

The Didier Group is planning mixed residential housing on what’s now undeveloped land primarily along Lakewood Drive and across from the back side of Gleneagle Apartments on Rose Circle. The site is near Lake Conestee Nature Park and features about 2,100 feet of frontage along the Reedy River and a 2.5-acre pond.

City documents note the development could potentially add more than 1,000 units, though an exact number is not projected.
