At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, firefighters from the Mauldin Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a construction site off Highway 417 next to I-385. When units arrived on scene, they encountered several piles of brush on fire with flames as high as 40 feet tall.
Brush trucks from Simpsonville Fire Department and South Greenville Fire Department responded to assist, helping Mauldin firefighters to establish a perimeter around the blaze and ensure it did not endanger public safety. Fire crews contained and monitored the fire until it burned out at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday. The last fire crews cleared out of the site at approximately 6:30 a.m.
The Mauldin Police Department also responded to the scene to provide security. At no time was there a threat to lives or property. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
