The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers, as well as to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. On September 9, 2019, ESGR presented Mauldin Fire Chief Bill Stewart an award for the City’s support of Guardsmen and Reservist through the City’s Fire Department. Chief Stewart was recognized for this award during the September 16, 2019 City Council meeting.
