In December at the South Carolina Athletic Programming (SCAP) Board retreat, Mauldin Recreation Athletic Coordinator Willie Stewart was unanimously voted into the position of Vice President for the SCAP Board. SCAP is the governing body for all youth sports overseen by the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association (SCRPA). Stewart was recognized for this achievement at the December 16, 2019 Mauldin City Council meeting.

Over the past four years, Stewart has shown strong leadership within the SCAP Board. As the Vice President, some of his duties will include promoting all programming, directing the SCAP Institute and Awards Committee, as well as serving on the Rules and Tournament Committee.

Additionally, the Vice President role is designed to step into the President’s role during the following year. As President for 2021, Stewart will appoint District Chairpersons, coordinate SCAP Board meetings, oversee all committees, and serve as the liaison between the participating state membership agencies and the SCAP Board concerning handbook questions, rulings, and appeals.

“Willie is known and respected throughout the state of South Carolina for his ability to lead youth athletic programs,” said Joe Lanahan, Recreation Director for the City of Mauldin. “Being voted to this position by his peers reflects all the hard work and preparation Willie shows each day here for the City of Mauldin. I have no doubt the SCAP Board will see growth and improvement now that Willie is part of the leadership.”
