Welcome to Mauldin, South Carolina

Municipal Projects

The City of Mauldin has several municipal projects underway at any given time. Currently, there are four important city projects happening in the City of Mauldin. Below you will find a brief description of each project. For more information about a specific project, please click on the project title to be redirected to the project’s webpage. The City encourages public input!

US 276 Main Street Improvement Project

The City of Mauldin developed without a defined central city or downtown area. This occurred because the city experienced very little growth prior to the 1950s, and suburban shopping centers on wide highways were replacing traditional downtown style development. Recently, the City decided to take action and plan for future development. The Main Street Plan aims to create a more functional and attractive gateway to Mauldin, and will include the elements such as landscaping, improved street network connectivity, improved conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians, adjustments for future regional mass transit services, opportunities for new development and redevelopment and design standards that help create a stronger sense of place for the City of Mauldin.

Mauldin 2009 Comprehensive Plan

South Carolina requires that all cities and counties create and update a 20-year comprehensive plan every 10 years. Each comprehensive plan must have nine elements. These elements are population, housing, land use, natural resources, transportation, community facilities, priority investment, economic development, and cultural resources. The City of Mauldin has added another element to its comprehensive plan. The City Center Development element is unique to Mauldin’s comprehensive plan.

Mauldin Cultural Center Master Plan

The Mauldin Cultural Center is a public charity located in the old Mauldin Elementary school building owned by the City of Mauldin. A seven member citizen Board works with Mauldin City Council to fulfill the organization’s mission and bring culture and arts to Mauldin. Currently, the auditorium at the rear of the facility is in the process of being renovated and updated to fit with the future events planned for the Mauldin Cultural Center. An architectural firm, Neal Prince, conducts public meetings and leads the project in renovation and design. Clemson University’s Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture will update the master plan to guide future development for the Mauldin Cultural Center.
